7 Songs and a Tag

I have been tagged by Memphis Steve. The rules: List 7 songs you're into right now. No matter the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

1. "You're Beautiful" - by James Blunt
2. "Missing You" - by Tyler Hilton

3. "Bless the Broken Road" - by Rascal Flatts
4. "Collide" - by Dishwalla

5. "Hell Yeah" - by Neil Diamond
6. "Evermore" - by Neil Diamond
7. "Untitled" - by Simple Plan

Yea, so some of these are new, some are old. All of them, except for Rascal Flatts and Neil Diamond, I found on my favorite T.V. show. That's how I find a lot of the songs I like.

Now, I am tagging:
Manic Mom
Christa
Ex-Girlfriend
The Traveler
Steven
JT

I don't believe I've heard any of those songs. Also, I don't know what your favorite TV show is. Damn, I'm completely uninformed today.

morbid - they're all pretty random. and i don't think i've revealed on my blog what my favorite TV show is. so don't feel bad.

I just watched Michelle Malkin kick ass on C-SPAN2: I couldn't feel bad if I tried.

Hey, I am dadgumm flattered. It will take me a day or three. (Lately, it's been whatever Chris sings on my wife's favorite show. I can't get over that guy's voice.)

Morbid, if you like MM (good choice) then maybe you'd be interested in Laura Ingraham's review of Diamond's latest. She went on and on about how she never liked Neil before, but this album is different.... But I've always liked him--good writer, if sentimental.

I'm back. I just couldn't come up with a list of seven songs. But here's seven great writers/singers whose work I always enjoy:

1. Willie Nelson
2. The Eagles
3. Third Day
4. Bob Seger
5. the David Crowder Band (I stole my brother's cd which he left stateside in what used to be my closet...)
6. "I want to leave a legacy" by Nichole Nordeman
7. Natalie Merchant (the Chinese place where I eat lunch plays her--so soothing with a meal).

I should say singers who become activists annoy me. Otherwise, I am a fan of Streisand, but only in the 60s and 70s, U2 in the 80s, and Willie Nelson when he's not talking about "legalization" and now every cowboy's inner-cowgirl thing.... Bob Wills would roll over in his grave.

(If this list were any longer, you'd see it's all sort of regional--Texas first, then the south. Omitting, of course, all the musical theater, opera, and classical....)

We went to see some friends perform at a club about a year ago. They asked if anyone had any requests. A guy came up and asked for Neil Diamond. We all laughed because we thought he was kidding. He got all weepy and went back to the bar. It was funny as hell. Then I started singing "Song Sung Blue" because it was all I could remember. I don't think it cheered him up though.

One of my sisters is a huge Neil Diamond fan. I've heard everything he did up until about 1980. He's not bad.

steven - you've got some good ones there, man. i'm with you on the whole "singers turned activists" thing. although i'd spread that out to include actors, too. i mean, i'm all for people trying to help those that need help. but when George Clooney starts telling me who i need to vote for, i've got a problem.

steve - honestly, i never woulda thunk of listening to Neil Diamond before a few months ago. i just figured he was some old-fogie dork who my dad used to listen to. a presumptuous conclusion, indeed. but dad had "12 Songs" playin in his car as we drove to various extended families during Christmas, and man, was i hooked. i don't go too many days without listening to that CD.

I agree about the actors. I can't get over the fact that they are JUST actors. And I'm not being ironic. I mean, Demi Moore and Rosie O didn't even finish high school. And that's not to say they are not smart or talented. But they are no smarter than Joe Lunchbox, you know? (And I have known a lot of actors and assorted artists, have worked among them quite a bit. I love those people--I do. But they do so little to merit the bully pulpit we give them.
To use one of my favorite lines: "That's my speech, thank you for listenin."
