On Monday, around 11 p.m., this Unknown Man will have been on this Earth for 25 years.

Some days, I feel like I've lived the richest and fullest 25 years of anybody who ever existed.

Other days, I feel quite the opposite.

Here's to hoping that on this day, I feel the former.

I am so completely thrilled that I get to wish you your first comment birthday wish--Happy Birthday! It is wonderful for you to feel the way you do, both ways, because it makes you happy with the past and it makes you hopeful for the present... what better present is there?

Happy Birthday to my Blogging Buddy! xo

Okay, and I'm not even drinking. I meant to say, it makes you hopeful for the future...duh.

Anyway, just another excuse to wish you happy birthday and if you need a spankin'....

MM - no one could have been a better "first happy bday wisher" than you. and great insight about the 2 feelings that i have had about it all. Thank You.

steven - it was a good day. and i am humbly honored at your quoting of me. dare i even ask what it was? Thank You.

cliff - awesome, awesome point there. it is key to make your life your own. Thank You.

dennis - right back at ya. Thank You.

e - i am trying, i promise. Thank You.

JT - somehow, i don't feel so "young" anymore, although comparatively speaking, perhaps i still am. Thank You.

everyone - it was a good day. traffic was backed up on the interstate this morning on my way to work, so someone was dropping me a little hint to take the long way today. the long way would be the Blue Ridge Parkway, and for anyone who's ever driven that road, it is nothing short of soothing. i worked hard and made a lot of people happy today. i ate one of the best steaks i've ever eaten and one of the best chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecakes i've ever eaten (maybe the ONLY one, but it was goooood). driving home, the sky was crystal clear - as it was all day - and i'm fairly certain i caught a sight of the Big Dipper in the South Eastern sky.

The cheesecake reminded me of Nicole.
The Big Dipper reminded me of Astronomy class at UNC.
I got "happy birthday"s from a lot of people.

I am a rich man.

Happy Birthday, Bro. Sorry I'm late with the ol' well-wishing, but, despite my various precautions, I had some serious computer problems and couldn't get online for a while.

Anyway, from reading your blog I'd say you've lived quite the life. I turned 23 last month and when similar questions came up about living my life to the fullest, rather than become contemplative I drowned my regrets with a rather large bottle of Absinthe.

Congratulations on living another year.

A great secret of success is to go through life as a man who never gets used up.

morbid - no worries, man. thanks so much for the well wishes.

some days i feel like i really have lived a full life. on others, i dread the possibility of someone asking me "what are you doing now?" or "where are you now" or any of that crap. i hate that. absinthe sounds good during those moments.

thanks again, bro
